Non-fiction collections


The non-fiction collections provide information on an extensive range of subjects in the form of books, including large print, talking books and DVDs.

All non fiction items are classified using the Dewey Decimal System which divides subjects into ten classes numbered from 000 to 900. This is referred to as the Call Number in our library catalogue.

 200  Religion All world religions and mythology
 300  Social Science Politics, economics, law, social welfare, crime, education, communications, transport, customs and folklore
 400  Language English and foreign language dictionaries, ESOL 
 500  Pure Science Mathematics, astronomy, physics, chemistry, earth sciences, palaeontology, anthropology, biology, botany and zoology
 600  Technology Medicine, health, fitness, engineering, vehicles, agriculture, gardening, cookery, home crafts, parenting, business and management, advertising, printing and bookbinding, manufacturing, woodworking and building
 700 The Arts Landscaping, architecture, sculpture, drawing and painting, printmaking, design, photography, theatre, film and television, dance, music, hobbies and sports

Reference book collection

The Reference book collection can be a starting point for your information search, providing an overview of your subject as a basis for further research, or simply a concise summary of the topic, to save you reading a whole book about it. The books in this collection are not available for borrowing.
